Walt Disney’s Uncle Scrooge (1990) 251
Christmas was very symbiotic for the Ducks in 1990 with Donald’s promise linked to Uncle Scrooge’s dilemma.
Hoping to avoid the hustle and bustle of holiday shoppers, Donald offers to buy the boys anything. As long as it comes from one of his handpicked catalogs. The nephews plow through the pile settling on one gift they wish to share with the town.
Somehow a carnival catalog has made its way to the stack. The boys are wanting the Ferris wheel. Bound by his promise Donald turns to the only duck in town who can afford the gift.
Scrooge agrees, under the condition Donald and the nephews go north to escort a 100-foot pine back to town center. The fir will be featured as Duckburg’s Christmas centerpiece.
Uncle Scrooge’s sudden generosity stemmed from the previous season’s stinginess. An embarrassing encounter moves Scrooge to offer the largest tree and biggest feast in town history.
His opponent enlists the aid of the Beegle Boys to ensure the promise is unfulfilled. Still, all ends well for Scrooge, Donald and the boys by books finish.
This marked the first time Disney characters were published by a Disney publishing company. The license had returned from Gladstone, a Bruce Hamilton Company. Gladstone published the title from October 1986 to April 1990.
The license returned to Gladstone in 1993. Uncle Scrooge continued his adventures under their guidance until issue 318 in 1999. During that time the series was honored as a nominee for Best Continuing Series in 1995 and winner of Best Serialized Story (issues 285-296) that same year and nominee for Best Title for Younger Readers in 1996 all for the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards.
Uncle Scrooge Very Special Halloween
This digital one-shot was released Oct. 23, 2013.
Huey, Dewey and Louie attempt to circumvent Gyro Gearloose’s latest invention in an effort to relieve Uncle Scrooge of some of his candy. This Halloween tradition will continue to fail unless the triplets can find a way to scare their uncle.
For 2013 Gyro has created a machine that allows Scrooge to see each visitor’s true identity. Roles and settings are reversed leaving too many of Scrooge’s worst nightmares roaming the money bin.
A quick and satisfying read while sorting through the candy this Halloween.

Mickey and Donald Christmas Parade (2019) 5
Christmas 2019 would not be complete without IDW’s Disney holiday offering from afar.
The fifth installment brought something new with Topolino – or Mikey Mouse – 3239, originally printed in 2017. The opening tale, ‘Mickey Mouse and the Lost Toy,’ is a which-way story. Our titular hero loses his gift for Minnie. Mickey’s fate is determined by the choices made by readers. Most don’t end well.

This is followed by a one-page funny called ‘Christmas in Mouseton.’ Mickey falls victim to an expanding waistline. This from Topolino issue 3083, circa 2014.
‘Christmas in the Money Bin’ is another one-page excursion, this time with Uncle Scrooge. Technology helps Duckburg’s most prominent citizen with his electric bill, but does little to enlighten the town. This is reprinted from issue 3083, too.
Skipping forward to 2016 and issue 3187, readers are welcomed by ‘Uncle Scrooge and the Christmas Contest.’
Scrooge sets his sites on the season’s hottest toy in hopes of closing a business deal. His holiday lesson is individuality is a valuable trait.
‘Christmas at the Farm,’ with Donald and Mickey, is another one-page affair. Mickey’s memory is longer than Donald’s in this retelling from Topolino 3083.
Peg Leg Pete gets top billing in ‘Christmas Spirit.’ One kind act can offer far reaching benefits, especially during the holidays. This from Topolino 3187, 2016.
The book finishes with two one-page funnies.
‘Christmas in Duckburg,’ with Donald and nephews, jumps the calendar by several months.
‘Christmas at Grandma Duck’s’ is another Donald vehicle featuring Uncle Scrooge.
The first of the last two was originally published in Topolino 3239, 2017 and Topolino 3135, 2015.
